Understanding how the early childhood education policies of Australian governments promote health and equity through action on the social determinants.

We all want the best for our children. When they’re young, the proper development of their physical health, mental health and social relationships is incredibly important. During their early years, the ways in which they learn and experience the world have a considerable impact on their wellbeing.

Because of this, it is essential that children are given the best possible start through effective early education policies that support their wellbeing and development.

Flinders University Professor Fran Baum and team will use a Flinders Foundation Health Seed Grant to analyse Australian early childhood education policies, in order to identify how these policies can be improved. The research will provide evidence on the strengths and weaknesses of current policies, and identify areas that should be strengthened.

Professor Baum’s research will give us the opportunity to improve the wellbeing of our children during their early years and into their future lives.
