We are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2025 SALHN Biomedical Equipment Grant Round, proudly supported by Flinders Foundation.

We are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2025 SALHN Biomedical Equipment Grant Round, proudly supported by Flinders Foundation. This year’s grants will enable the purchase of vital biomedical equipment that strengthens clinical capability, enhances patient care and supports the delivery of exceptional, sustainable healthcare across SALHN.

With a total funding pool of $200,000, the round focused on equipment that improves diagnosis, treatment, safety and patient experience, and aligns with SALHN’s strategic priorities and Flinders Foundation’s Theory of Change. Applications were assessed through a rigorous and transparent process involving clinical subject matter experts, SALHN Biomedical Engineering and Flinders Foundation representatives.

Our successful recipients are:

Dr Joanne Eng Frost – Cardiologist – Cardiology Department

  • Pedalling Toward Precision: Integrating Recumbent Exercise into Right Heart Catheterisation to Improve Diagnostic Accuracy and Care for Heart Failure Patients at SALHN.

Dr Patricia Kaazan – Gastroenterologist / Bowel Sonographer - Department SAPOM

  • Ultrasound machine for FMC IBD service

Mardi Isbel – Medical Scientist – Eye Bank of South Australia – Department of Ophthalmology

  • Moria System for DSAEK Corneal Processing

Thank you to all applicants, whose projects represent a diverse range of departments and services across SALHN. Each initiative will bring new or upgraded biomedical capability into our health service, addressing key clinical needs and improving outcomes for patients and staff alike.

This grant round reflects the strength of the partnership between SALHN and Flinders Foundation, with philanthropic support enabling capability building and driving innovation where it can make the greatest impact for our community.

Thank you to all applicants for the care and thought invested in each submission, and sincere thanks to the generous donors of Flinders Foundation whose support makes this program possible. These grants contribute directly to improved health outcomes for the people of Southern Adelaide and beyond.

For applicants who were unsuccessful in this round but whose projects have been endorsed, the Flinders Foundation team will continue working over the next 12 months to seek external investment opportunities to help bring these projects to life. We look forward to sharing updates if opportunities progress.
