Then and Now: Allesha’s special neonatal visit

Posted 27 Aug 2024
It was special to recently welcome Allesha Hondrou back to the Flinders, alongside mum Korina and dad Peter.

Allesha was born at 28 weeks, weighing just 900 grams, and spent 103 days in the hospital’s Neonatal Unit.

With Allesha celebrating her 30th birthday in August, and getting married later in the year, the family took the opportunity to visit the unit to see where Allesha spent her first months and give thanks for the care they received all those years ago.

“I can still remember all the alarm bells and sounds of the equipment,” Peter recalls.

“Everything was very up and down - one day we would think she was going to be ok, and the next day that wasn’t the case.

“It’s nice to be able to come back here and for Allesha to see what these wonderful people do to keep these critical babies alive, because the pictures we have don’t tell the whole story.”

Thank you Hondrou family for generously supporting babies and their families at Flinders.
