More than just a run The 2018 Bay to Birdwood

When Malcolm Adamson pulls his 1948 Jaguar Convertible out of the garage for the Bay to Birdwood he'll not only embarking on a memorable day out, but will also be doing his bit to beat cancer.

For the past five years Malcolm has generously donated to Bay to Birdwood charity partner Flinders Foundation, helping to fund ground-breaking cancer research at the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer.

Malcolm is no stranger to the effects of cancer, having battled Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Prostate Cancer. Thankfully he’s now in remission, feeling healthy and still working at the age of 80!

“I received my treatment at Flinders and they’ve been a wonderful help over the years and always took care of me, so this is a small way of paying them back I suppose,” Malcolm says.

Throughout Bay to Birdwood’s 38-year history, Malcolm has only ever missed one run…under doctor’s orders in 1999.

“The doctor wouldn’t let me drive, so my daughter and son-in-law took the car that year,” Malcolm says.

“I did still manage to find my way to Anzac Highway though so I could see the cars go past.”

Bay to Birdwood has raised more than $20,000 for Flinders Foundation throughout its partnership.

This year, participants like Malcolm who make a donation on their registration form will receive a ribbon to display on their vehicle during the run.
