When you hear “you have cancer,” everything changes
Through accessing life-changing and life-saving treatment, Natalie is here for her children today.
Your support helps fund vital research and compassionate care that gives patients like Natalie more time with their families, and more hope for the future.
Donate to exceptional research and care today
Natalie still remembers the moment her world stopped.
She was standing alone in a hospital room when she heard the words no one is ever prepared for:
“You have cancer.”
In that instant, nothing was certain.
Not the treatment. Not the outcome. Not how much time she might have with her children. Minutes later, she was in the car park, calling her husband:
“I’ve just been told I have cancer… but I’m going to pick up the kids now.”
Because life didn’t stop. Her children were still waiting at school. Dinner still had to be made. Bedtime still had to happen.
And from that moment on, everything became about one thing:
Staying here for her children.
I remember thinking that this might be the last Christmas I would have with my family. I remember feeling terrified.
The gruelling reality of treatment
A few days after her diagnosis, Natalie sat down with her children. Jacob and Charlotte were just nine and five.
She told them she was unwell. That she needed treatment. That she was going to do everything she could to get better.
And she did.
What followed was relentless:
Surgery. More surgery. And sixteen rounds of chemotherapy.
And through it all, she kept showing up—for her children, every single day.
Help make exceptional care possible
Thanks to the exceptional care Natalie received at Flinders, she is still living, still parenting, and still making memories.
Your support today could provide hope and time to families like Natalie's.
Life beyond cancer
But what people don’t always see is what comes after treatment.
The recovery. The emotional toll. The ongoing appointments.
The quiet, constant fear that cancer might return. For Natalie, life looks different now. There is uncertainty—but also something else:
A deep gratitude for every single day with her husband and children.
The power of giving back
Directly after her treatment, Natalie made a remarkable decision. She chose to take part in a clinical trial at the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer.
Not just for herself—but for people she may never meet.
“I wanted to be part of something bigger… something that could help even one person.”
She understood that the treatments helping her today exist because others chose to support research before her.
And without continued funding, future families may not have those same options.
Let’s come together and support research and care at Flinders.
At the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer, research, treatment, and care come together in one place—helping breakthroughs move from the lab to patients, faster.
But this work is only possible because of people like you.
Your donation can help fund:
