A collective effort – Wishart Jewellers supporting cancer research and care
Now in their sixth year supporting this annual event, Wishart Jewellers support is helping to fund ground-breaking research across a range of cancers, while also improving care for the 2,500 people diagnosed with cancer at Flinders each year, and the thousands more who attend ongoing treatment and appointments.
“We’d long wanted to be involved in supporting this cause and were in the fortunate position to be able to do something to help tackle cancer – a disease which a number of friends, families and members of our community have been affected by and sadly lost people to,” shares Dan Wishart, third generation jeweller at the iconic Glenelg business which recently celebrated 70 years.
“Our years attending the Pink Yellow Blue Ball have been eye-opening, inspiring, and at times, really emotional and heartbreaking hearing the stories shared on the night.
“There’s also been huge learnings on our part, hearing from the researchers and specialists about how they’re making advances in cancer, and knowing that we’re helping them to do this.”
Each year, with huge amounts of time, passion, dedication and creativity, Dan together with Wishart’s Jewellery Designer Renee Marwe, design a special and unique piece of hand-crafted jewellery specifically for the Pink Yellow Blue Ball, which is then auctioned off to raise funds for cancer research and care. To date, this incredible support tallies close to $100,000!
“There has been great success for our jewellery on the night and it’s always been amazing to see our pieces auctioned for a high amount and to know that’s all going towards making a difference for people and families who’ve been affected by cancer,” says Dan.
“It’s also our major team event for the year where we get together and bring some clients for a great night out ... It’s a representation of who we are as a small business and about doing our bit for an illness that affects so many of our community and their families and friends, as well as our own.”
