Now, the team is taking their commitment beyond the clinic by joining the Flinders Foundation team for this year’s City-Bay Fun Run, raising vital funds for exceptional care.
Their fundraising is about more than a challenge, it’s about giving back. Earlier this year, the Eye Bank received a grant, supported by Flinders Foundation, to purchase specialised equipment that helps process donated corneal tissue for transplant surgery. Thanks to community generosity, the team can prepare ocular tissue to the highest standards, helping deliver the best possible outcomes for patients.
Since 1982, more than 4,300 donors have helped make life-changing corneal transplants possible. Now, they’re paying that generosity forward.
"We hope that by fundraising we can support the continuation and expansion of Flinders Foundation's grant rounds, allowing more projects to be supported, which in turn will benefit people and families across southern Adelaide," said Mardi, Medical Scientist at the Eye Bank of South Australia.
For the Eye Bank team, doing the City-Bay together is about more than reaching the finish line, it’s about ensuring continued investment in the future of healthcare.
“Every little bit helps. We all have a common goal to make sure we play our part in enhancing patient care and outcomes.”
And when race day comes, they’ll be doing it together.
“Having each other walking or running side by side will motivate us all. We know we will have laughs along the way.”
