When Lyndon, a husband and father of two from Hobart, went in for a routine colonoscopy in his mid-40s, he didn’t expect to walk away with a life-changing diagnosis—bowel cancer.
At first, surgery brought hope. But just a year later, that hope was shaken when Lyndon received the words no one ever wants to hear: “It’s back. And it’s spreading.”
First to his liver. Then to his lungs. As treatment after treatment failed, Lyndon and his family began preparing for the worst. It felt like the options were running out—until a phone call changed everything.
A promising new clinical trial was underway at the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer in Adelaide. Lyndon was offered a place.

Hope in a new approach
The trial offered hope in the form of a targeted therapy—a new approach that, while not curative, could stabilise the cancer and slow its progression. Determined to keep fighting, Lyndon packed his bags and began travelling every three weeks from Tasmania to Adelaide to receive treatment at Flinders.
That was over three years ago.
Now, thanks to the exceptional care he receives at the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer, Lyndon is still here. Still living, still parenting, still making memories.
Each flight he takes, each moment with his family, is made possible not only by medical research—but by the generosity of people who support it.
“Every time I leave home, I kiss my kids and hug my wife, and I get on that plane knowing this treatment is giving me time I never thought I’d have,” Lyndon shared.
Behind every story like Lyndon’s is a team of dedicated clinicians, researchers, and generous donors who make advanced care and pioneering trials possible.
At the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer, research and compassionate care go hand in hand—offering patients more than just treatment, but hope and dignity in the face of illness.
As the number of people facing cancer continues to grow, the need for this kind of care—and the research that powers it—has never been greater.
Your support can help give someone else the chance Lyndon received.
