From Paediatrics to the pavement – How Maddie is taking charge of patient care
Maddie’s dedication to improving the hospital experience for children and their families extends beyond her role in the Paediatric Team, as she laces up for this year’s City-Bay.
She’ll pound the pavement with purpose, fundraising for Flinders Foundation to help create positive outcomes and exceptional care for her patients.
Paediatric Team fuelled with support from Flinders Foundation
Now in her fourth year running City-Bay as a fundraiser, Maddie and the Paediatric Team, with support from Flinders Foundation, have collaborated on a range of projects to improve the hospital experience for patients at Flinders. Their work has led to meaningful changes and positive outcomes for children and their families.
Children and families just like her own.
“As the Nurse Unit Manager of the Paediatric Unit, I am privileged to witness first-hand the positive impact our support brings,” said Maddie.
“Seeing the smiles on children’s faces and knowing our efforts help create those moments reinforces the importance of what we do.”
This year, Maddie hopes her fundraising will help ease distress for children in hospital during procedures by introducing calming sensory toys, “Buzzy Bee” needle-pain relief devices, or even gaming devices.
Pushing herself and patient care further
Running for a reason has not only helped Maddie’s nursing team push further for patients and their families, but it has also motivated her to reach her own fitness goals.
“When I first signed up, I had never run 12km before, but having such a worthy cause to support motivated my training.
“Each year, I look forward to this event — not only for the vibrant atmosphere and the chance to connect with colleagues outside the hospital, but also for the opportunity to contribute to a cause that truly makes a difference.”
