New York Marathon runners raise $114,000!
A group of 60 locals have put in a marathon-sized effort – raising an incredible $114,000 to help build a new Cancer Wellness Centre at Flinders.
Coordinated and trained by Anna Liptak of His and Her Time Adventure Time, the group took on the world’s largest marathon – The New York Marathon.
For many, it was their first marathon. In addition to taking on this immense personal challenge, they also raised funds to build a new Cancer Wellness Centre on the ground floor of the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer to provide better support to patients and their families who are affected by cancer.
Many of the group had their own cancer stories and overcame personal challenges to take part in the marathon and we’re grateful to them and His & Her Time for bringing a Cancer Wellness Centre closer to reality.
Among them was Flinders Foundation Ambassador and Mix 102.3 Breakfast host Mark ‘Soda’ Soderstrom, and David Briggs who lost his wife Kerry to breast cancer in 2016.
The group will feature in national documentary I’m Not A Runner which aims to debunk the myth that marathons are only for elite athletes.
